Celebrate July 22

Its Thursday July 22, 2010 and I know  you are all wondering what fun and exciting excuses we have to celebrate today.  Well here they are;

  • America the Beautiful Day 1895
  • Froot Loops Birthday 1963
  • Toucan Sam's Birthday 1963
  • Lion's Share Day
  • Pi Approximation Day
  • Maple Syrup Day
  • Summer Leisure Day
  • Pied Piper of Hamelin Day
  • International Childbirth Education awareness day
  • Egypt Revolution Day (Revolution occurred in 1952)
  • Ken Langley born 1986 (My super Amazing Brother in-law)
My pick of the day is Froot Loop and Toucan Sam's Birthday 1963.

Yes, he is wearing a Toucan Sam shirt!  I couldn't resist and for only $1.96 at Target I couldn't pass it up!

Of course we will be starting our day with a big healthy bowl of Froot Loops! Then we will make the traditional Froot Loop necklaces that we can wear throughout the day!  To make this more of a teaching activity we will be making Froot Loop Pattern Necklaces.  Using froot loops and dental floss, create a pattern for your child to follow. For instance, blue loop, red loop, blue loop, red loop, and then have child tell you next piece in the pattern and add to necklace.

There are so many FUN froot Loop activities!  One of the funniest things today was going to youtube and watching some classic commercials with Toucan Sam (Holy cow flash back of memories) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySDbDUre14E check out a few they are so funny!

Make froot loop art!  Give each child a bowl of Froot Loops, glue, glitter, paper, and whatever else you have around the house and allow them to create there own unique Froot Loop art piece Display it on the fridge or wall as decoration for the day!

To go with our dinner tonight I will be making Rainbow (Froot Loop) Muffins (My kids love these) I prefer these as mini muffins but, they turn out great no matter the size!  I'm warning you this is a kid muffin!  They are a little weak when it comes to flavor but, are fun for today's Celebration!

Rainbow Muffins
1 3/4 Cups unbleached Flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 tablespoons margarine, melted
1 whole egg, slightly beaten
1 Cup water
1 1/2 Cup froot loops cereal (you can use trix ceral also) broken into small pieces

Preheat oven to 400°F Prepare 12 standard muffin cups; set aside. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and baking powder. Add margarine, egg, water, and 1.5 cups cereal. Mix until moistened. Fill each muffin cup with 1/3 cup of batter. Sprinkle crushed cereal on top. Bake for 20 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

To end the day I will be reading The Pied Piper of Hamelin check out this website http://www.readroom.com/RRoom/BooksRead/PiedPiper/PiedPiper.pdf  it has the story and some activities you can do with your kids to celebrate the Pied Piper of Hamelin!  We will be doing this before we go to bed!

Have a great day and enjoy your Celebrations!  Make memories with your loved ones and don't let one moment pass you by with our thinking of an excuse to Celebrate!
