Celebrate July 23

July 23rd, Holy Cow there is so much to Celebrate Today!  I'm so excited!!!!!
  • Ice Cream Cone Introduced (In St. Louis MO in 1904)
  • National Hot dog Day
  • National Cowboy Day
  • Mosquito Day
  • Empire State Building Crash Day (1935 an airplane crashed into the Empire State Building in New York City. At the time, the Empire State Building was the world's tallest building.)
  • National Vanilla Ice Cream Day
  • Hot Enough For Ya Day
  • 1988 Guns n' Roses "Sweet Child of Mine" debuts
My pick of the Day is a combination of Celebrations.  We will honor the debut of the Ice Cream Cone by making our own homemade cones and eating our homemade yummy vanilla ice cream in them.  We will celebrate National Hot Dog Day by roasting hot dogs outside for dinner! While outside I will be putting on some bug repellent in remembrance of Mosquito Day and just for kicks while I'm outside I will say "Hot enough for ya"  Then to top it all off we will listen to "Sweet Child of Mine"  by Guns in Roses.  Does a day get any better then this?? .

Here is a quick EASY and I mean EASY recipe for Homemade Ice Cream you can do at home whether or not you have a Ice Cream Maker

Ingredients

  • 4 cups half-and-half or light cream
  • 1 (14 ounce) can EAGLE BRAND Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract

  • Directions
  1. In large bowl, combine ingredients; mix well. Pour into ice cream freezer container.
  2. Freeze according to manufacturer's instructions. Freeze leftovers.

You can add flavorings to this recipe but, because it is Vanilla Ice Cream Day we will be keeping ours vanilla flavored!

  • Refrigerator-Freezer Method: Omit half-and-half. In large bowl, combine sweetened condensed milk and vanilla; mix well. Fold in 2 cups whipping cream. Pour into 9x5-inch loaf pan or other 2-quart container; cover. Freeze 6 hours or until firm. Freeze leftovers

Have fun with eating Hot Dogs!  At our house we like to have a Hot Dog Bar (just like a potato bar but, with Hot Dogs.)  It is so much fun to break out a bunch of unique toppings.  One of our family favorites is coleslaw!  We usually have cheese, chili, coleslaw, onions, relish, mustard, ketchup, hot peppers, banana peppers.  You get the idea!  Be creative and turn your normal everyday Hot Dog into something unique and special!

So go out and CELEBRATE because its July 23rd!!

  1. There should not be a such thing as mosquito day! I guess we celebrated that one! We just got home from camping and was looking through my google reader and saw that. We all look like we have chicken pox all thanks to mosquito repellent that's not that repelling or they just love our blood! I love all your ideas!
